Word Meanings:

  • وَتَرَكْنَا (And We left/remained): Meaning We kept and preserved for them.
  • عَلَيْهِمَا (upon them both): Referring to Prophet Musa (Moses) and Prophet Harun (Aaron), peace be upon them.
  • فِي الْآخِرِينَ (among the later generations): Meaning among the peoples who came after them.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah the Almighty informs us of His great favor upon His two prophets, Musa and Harun, peace be upon them. After mentioning how He granted them the clear Scripture (the Torah) and guided them to the straight path — the path of Islam, the religion of truth with no deviation in it — Allah now tells us that He also preserved for them a beautiful legacy: a lasting praise and honorable mention among all the nations that came after them. Their names are spoken with reverence, their stories are told with honor, and their example remains a beacon of guidance for every generation until the end of time. This is a divine honor that no worldly wealth or power can ever match — to be remembered by Allah and His creation in the most beautiful way, forever.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, ponder upon this magnificent divine favor! Allah did not merely guide Musa and Harun and forgive them; He elevated their mention in the heavens and the earth. Their names are recited in every prayer, their story is a source of strength for every believer facing trials. This teaches us a profound lesson: the true legacy that remains is not measured by wealth, palaces, or titles, but by the impact we leave on hearts and the mark we make in the path of Allah. When you live for Allah, Allah makes your name live among the righteous. Strive to be among those whose mention is sweet on the tongues of people and beloved to the Lord of the worlds. Let the example of these noble prophets inspire you to hold firm to the truth, to be patient in adversity, and to know that the greatest reward is not in this fleeting world, but in the eternal remembrance and pleasure of Allah. May we all be among those whom Allah loves and honors with a goodly mention in this life and the Hereafter.
