Key Words and Phrases:

  • Ātaynāhumā – "We gave them both" – referring to Prophet Moses (Mūsā) and his brother Prophet Aaron (Hārūn), peace be upon them.
  • Al-Kitāb – "The Book" – here meaning the Torah (Tawrāh), the divine scripture revealed to Moses.
  • Al-Mustabīn – "The Clear/Manifest" – meaning a book that is evident, unambiguous, and distinct in its guidance, leaving no room for confusion.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah (Exalted be He) reminds us of His immense favor upon His two chosen prophets, Moses and Aaron, peace be upon them. He says: "And We gave them both the clear, manifest Book" – that is, the Torah. This Book was not a vague or obscure revelation; rather, it was a luminous scripture, clear in its rulings, decisive in its arguments, and radiant with divine wisdom. It laid down the boundaries of what is lawful and unlawful, explained the commandments and prohibitions, and illuminated the path of truth for the Children of Israel.

The Torah was a comprehensive constitution for its time, guiding the people out of the darkness of ignorance and idolatry into the light of monotheism and righteousness. Through it, Allah established justice, purified hearts, and set forth a complete way of life. The clarity of this Book was itself a miracle – a testament to the truth of Moses' prophethood and a mercy for those who sought guidance.

This verse also carries a profound lesson for us: Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, has never left humanity without guidance. Just as He gave Moses a clear Book, He has given us the Qur'an – the final and most complete revelation – which is even more clear, more comprehensive, and preserved for all times until the Day of Judgment. The Qur'an is the ultimate "Mustabīn" – a book whose verses are clear, whose guidance is perfect, and whose message is universal.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the greatness of Allah's gift. The same Lord who honored Moses and Aaron with a clear Book has honored you with the Qur'an – a Book that no human or jinn can produce its like, a Book that addresses your soul, your intellect, and your daily life. Do not let this treasure remain unread or unheeded. Open its pages, ponder its meanings, and let its light illuminate your heart. The path to success in this world and the Hereafter lies in following the clear guidance of Allah. Let the example of Moses and Aaron inspire you to stand firm upon the truth, to call others to goodness, and to trust that Allah's help is always near for those who believe and act righteously. Indeed, in the clarity of Allah's Book lies the cure for every confusion and the answer to every question. Embrace it, and you will find peace, purpose, and eternal success.
