Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- فاتنين (Fātinīn): Those who lead astray, tempt, or cause corruption and deviation from the truth.
- عليه (ʿAlayhi): The pronoun refers to Allah (God) — meaning "against Him" or "regarding Him."
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses those who associate partners with Allah and worship false deities alongside Him. It delivers a decisive and powerful message: "You are not able to lead anyone astray against Allah." In other words, no matter how hard the disbelievers and the forces of falsehood try, they cannot misguide a single soul from the path of truth except the one whom Allah — in His perfect wisdom and justice — has decreed to enter the blazing Fire due to their own persistent disbelief and wrongdoing.
The verse dismantles the illusion of power that the polytheists and their false gods might hold. It reassures the believers that the schemes of the enemies of truth are utterly powerless against Allah’s will and protection. The pronoun "upon Him" (ʿalayhi) points directly to Allah, emphasizing that no one can overcome His decree or turn His sincere servants away from Him. The attempt to misguide is real, but its success is entirely bound by Allah’s permission — and He only leaves to stray those who have chosen disbelief and oppression for themselves, as a just consequence of their own actions.
This verse is a profound comfort to the believers: their faith is safeguarded by Allah Himself. No temptation, no pressure, and no deception from the disbelievers can snatch them away from the truth unless they themselves abandon it. It also serves as a stern warning to the disbelievers that their efforts are futile — they may cause noise and confusion, but they cannot change the destiny that Allah has written for His sincere servants.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the greatness of this divine guarantee. Your heart, when sincerely attached to Allah, is under His direct protection. The enemies of faith — whether they be people, desires, or whispers of Shaytan — are weak before the power of Allah. So hold firmly to your faith, and do not fear the plots of anyone. For no one can lead you astray except by your own choice to turn away from Allah. And if you remain steadfast, Allah’s promise is true: He will never abandon you to the misguidance of others. This is the ultimate security — a security that no worldly power can provide. Embrace it, and let your heart find peace in the protection of the Almighty.
