Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Mujrimīn (الْمُجْرِمِينَ): Those who commit crimes against their own souls by choosing disobedience to Allah over His obedience—the criminals, the wicked, and those who associate partners with Allah.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most High, declares with absolute certainty and divine authority: "Indeed, thus do We do with the criminals." This verse serves as a decisive statement of divine justice, confirming that just as the disbelievers and wrongdoers of past nations were seized with a painful punishment, so too will every criminal who follows in their footsteps receive their due recompense.
The verse refers to those who deliberately chose the path of sin and transgression in this worldly life, preferring disobedience to Allah over His obedience. They are the ones who rejected the truth, persisted in their arrogance, and even went so far as to set up partners with Allah, the Almighty. For such people, there is no escape from divine justice—Allah will make them taste the painful torment as a fitting consequence of their deeds.
This is not a threat born of anger, but a promise rooted in perfect wisdom and justice. Allah does not wrong anyone in the least; rather, it is the criminals who wrong themselves by their own choices. The punishment that awaits them is the natural outcome of their persistent rebellion and their refusal to heed the warnings of the messengers.
A Call to Reflection and Repentance:
Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse. The justice of Allah is absolute and inescapable. No criminal, no matter how powerful or cunning, can evade His grasp. Yet, in His infinite mercy, Allah has left the door of repentance wide open for you. He does not delight in the punishment of His servants; rather, He calls you to turn back to Him before it is too late.
If you find yourself entangled in sin, know that Allah's mercy is greater than your shortcomings. He says in His Book: "Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful" (Az-Zumar 39:53). So hasten to repentance, embrace the light of faith, and save yourself from the fate of the criminals. The choice is yours—will you be among those who heed the warning, or among those who face the consequence?
