Word Meanings:

  • Al-Musaddiqīn (الْمُصَدِّقِينَ): Those who affirm and believe in something as true — specifically here, those who believe in the Resurrection and the Day of Judgment.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the scene from Paradise, where a believer is conversing with his former companion from the worldly life. The believer recalls how this companion used to mock him in disbelief, saying with scorn and ridicule: "Are you truly among those who believe in the Resurrection? Do you really affirm that we will be raised again after death, that our bones will be gathered, and that we will be held accountable for our deeds?"

The question is posed in a tone of utter astonishment and derision — as if the very idea of life after death were something absurd and impossible. The companion could not fathom that a person of intellect could accept such a reality, so he would taunt the believer, seeking to shake his faith and make him doubt the promise of Allah.

This verse highlights the psychological warfare that disbelievers waged against the believers in this world — using mockery, sarcasm, and false astonishment to belittle the truth. Yet, the believer remained steadfast, and now in Paradise, he is reminded of that very exchange as a testimony to his patience and faith.

Reflection and Da'wah:

This verse carries a profound lesson for every Muslim: the path of faith has always been accompanied by mockers and skeptics. When you hold firmly to the truth of the Hereafter — when you pray, fast, give charity, and strive for righteousness — there will always be those who look at you with ridicule, asking, "Are you really one of those who believe?" Do not let their words shake your certainty. Their mockery is but a reflection of their own blindness, for they cannot see beyond this fleeting world.

Remember that the believer in this verse is now enjoying the eternal bliss of Paradise, while his mocking companion is in the depths of punishment. The tables have turned, and the mockery has become a witness against the mocker. So stand firm in your faith, for the promise of Allah is true, and the Hereafter is nearer than you think. Let their laughter be short-lived, for the eternal joy belongs to those who believed and remained patient.
