Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • اصْبِرْ (Isbir): Be patient, endure with steadfastness.
  • ذَا الْأَيْدِ (Dhal-Ayd): The one of strength and power — both physical strength and strength in worship and obedience.
  • أَوَّابٌ (Awwab): One who constantly turns back to Allah in repentance, obedience, and remembrance.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O Messenger of Allah, bear patiently whatever the disbelievers say against you — their mockery, their rejection, and their hurtful words. Do not let their speech distress you, for Allah is your Protector and Supporter, and He will surely grant you victory.

And in times of hardship, remember Our servant Dawood (David), peace be upon him — a man of remarkable strength and power. His strength was not merely physical, though he was indeed mighty; rather, his true strength lay in his devotion to Allah, his firmness in fighting the enemies of truth, and his unwavering commitment to worship. He would fast every other day, stand long hours in night prayer, and strive tirelessly in the path of Allah.

Above all, Dawood was *awwab* — one who constantly turned back to Allah. Whenever he committed a slip, he rushed to repentance. Whenever he remembered his Lord, his heart would soften and incline toward Him. He never persisted in error, nor did he ever feel too proud to humble himself before his Creator.

This mention of Dawood serves as a profound consolation for you, O Prophet, and for every believer who faces opposition. If Dawood — a mighty king and prophet — endured trials with patience and remained ever-turning to Allah, then you too must hold firm. The path of truth has always been paved with tests, but the outcome belongs to the patient.

Dear believer, let this verse be a beacon for your soul. When the words of others weigh heavily upon your heart, remember that Allah sees your struggle and knows your sincerity. Turn to Him as Dawood turned to Him — with a heart that never tires of repentance, and a spirit that finds its strength in submission. For the one who is truly strong is not he who conquers others, but he who conquers his own soul through patience and devotion to Allah.

And know that Allah's promise is true: whoever endures with patience and remains ever-turning to Him will find that Allah never abandons His faithful servants. Let your trials become your ladder of elevation, and let your patience be the key to Allah's love and victory.
