Word Meanings:

  • Allāhumma: O Allah — a form of supplication that combines the divine name with the particle of calling.
  • Fāṭir: The Originator and Creator who brought into existence without any prior model or example.
  • Al-Ghayb: That which is hidden and unseen by creation — the unseen realms, the future, the secrets of hearts.
  • Al-Shahādah: That which is witnessed and apparent — the visible world, what is open and known.
  • Taḥkum: You judge, decide, and settle with perfect justice.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger of Allah, say to those who dispute and argue about the truth: "O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Creator of all that exists without any preceding pattern — You alone brought the vast cosmos into being from nothing. You are the Knower of all that is hidden from human sight and all that is witnessed and apparent; nothing escapes Your knowledge, not the whisper of a soul, not the fall of a leaf, not the secrets concealed in the deepest hearts. You are the One who will judge between Your servants on the Day of Resurrection concerning everything over which they differed in this worldly life — whether in matters of faith, worship, or the truth about You and Your messengers. You will clearly distinguish the one who followed the truth from the one who followed falsehood, the fortunate from the wretched."

This was among the supplications of the Prophet ﷺ, and it serves as a teaching for the believers — a lesson in turning to Allah alone, calling upon Him by His Most Beautiful Names and His Sublime Attributes, and entrusting all disputes to His perfect judgment. It is an invitation to abandon the anxiety of proving oneself right in worldly arguments, and instead to seek refuge in the One whose knowledge encompasses everything and whose judgment is absolute and just.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, when differences overwhelm you and disputes weigh heavily upon your heart, remember this noble supplication. Turn to Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, and place your affairs in His hands. He knows what you know and what you do not know. He sees the hidden motives and the open actions. He will settle every matter with perfect justice on the Day when all secrets are laid bare. So purify your intention, seek the truth sincerely, and leave the final judgment to the Wisest of Judges. Indeed, in turning to Him lies peace for the heart and clarity for the soul — for He is the One who guides whom He wills to the straight path, and His mercy encompasses all things.

📜 Verse 44-48 — Az-Zumar

Say, "To Allah belongs [the right to allow] intercession entirely. To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Then to Him you will be returned."
And when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion, but when those [worshipped] other than Him are mentioned, immediately they rejoice.
Say, "O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, You will judge between your servants concerning that over which they used to differ."
And if those who did wrong had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby from the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection. And there will appear to them from Allah that which they had not taken into account.
And there will appear to them the evils they had earned, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
