Word Meanings:
- Sadaqana wa‘dah – He fulfilled His promise to us, meaning He made true what He had pledged.
- Awrathana al-ard – He made us inherit the land, i.e., the land of Paradise, as an inheritance of His grace.
- Natabawwa’u – We settle and take up residence, choosing our dwelling places freely.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Resurrection, when the believers enter Paradise and witness its everlasting bliss, they will utter words of profound gratitude and praise: "All praise is due to Allah, who has fulfilled His promise to us." This promise was conveyed to them through His messengers—the promise of resurrection, reward, and entry into Paradise for those who believed and did righteous deeds. They acknowledge that Allah, in His perfect justice and mercy, did not fail them; every word He spoke came to pass.
Then they add: "And He has made us inherit the earth"—meaning the vast and eternal land of Paradise. They are not merely guests or temporary visitors; rather, they have been granted this land as a permanent inheritance, a gift of His bounty. They roam freely within it, settling wherever they wish, enjoying its rivers, gardens, palaces, and delights without restriction or end. This is the ultimate honor: the believer is given full sovereignty and joy in a realm of pure beauty.
The verse concludes with their declaration: "How excellent is the reward of those who work [righteous deeds]!" This is a testimony from the people of Paradise themselves, affirming that every act of obedience, patience, and devotion in the worldly life was worth every effort. They recognize that the reward far exceeds their deeds—it is purely from Allah’s grace and generosity.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, imagine this moment: standing at the gates of Paradise, looking back at your life’s struggles, prayers, fasts, charity, and perseverance through trials—and then hearing these words from your own lips, praising Allah for His faithfulness. This is not a distant fantasy; it is a reality promised by the One who never breaks His word. The Qur’an invites you today to be among those who will utter this praise. Every good deed you do, every sin you avoid for Allah’s sake, is an investment in this eternal inheritance. Do not let the fleeting pleasures of this world distract you from the everlasting abode. Strive now, so that you may one day say with joy: "How excellent is the reward of those who worked!" May Allah make us among them, and may He grant us the honor of settling in His Paradise wherever we wish.
