Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Aʿmā (الأَعْمَىٰ): The blind one — here referring to the one who is blind to the truth, the ignorant and misguided.
- Al-Baṣīr (الْبَصِيرُ): The seeing one — here referring to the one who perceives the truth, the knowledgeable and rightly guided.
- Al-Musīʾ (الْمُسِيءُ): The evildoer — the one who commits bad deeds, holds corrupt beliefs, and disobeys Allah.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Most High, presents a profound and self-evident truth: just as a blind person and a seeing person can never be equal, so too can the believer and the disbeliever never be equal. The blind person stumbles in darkness, unable to distinguish the path from the pitfall, while the seeing person walks with clarity, avoiding dangers and reaching their destination safely. In the same way, those who have faith in Allah, believe in His messengers, and perform righteous deeds are like the seeing — they walk through life with insight, guided by the light of revelation, and their end is honor and eternal bliss. Meanwhile, the one who does evil — through corrupt belief, disobedience, and turning away from Allah’s guidance — is like the blind, wandering aimlessly toward destruction.
Allah then addresses humanity with a gentle yet firm admonition: "Little do you remember!" How seldom do people reflect on this clear comparison? If they truly pondered, they would realize the immense difference between the two paths and would hasten to join the ranks of the believers and the righteous. The reminder is a mercy from Allah — an invitation to open one’s eyes, to see the truth clearly, and to choose the path that leads to His pleasure and eternal success.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a mirror placed before your soul. Ask yourself: Do I see with the eye of the heart, or am I stumbling in blindness? Allah does not leave you without guidance — He has sent His messengers, revealed His books, and made the truth as clear as daylight. The choice is yours. Do not let this life’s fleeting pleasures blind you to the everlasting joy that awaits those who believe and do good. Open your heart to the Qur’an, let its verses illuminate your path, and strive to be among those who see — for the seeing are the ones who will succeed, in this world and the next. Remember, the door of repentance is always open, and Allah’s mercy is greater than all your sins. Take the step today, and you will find a light that never fades.
