Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- أَرْدَاكُمْ (ardākum): Destroyed you, ruined you, or caused you to perish.
- الْخَاسِرِينَ (al-khāsirīn): The losers — those who have lost everything of value, both in this world and the Hereafter.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses those who, on the Day of Judgment, will find their own ears, eyes, and skin testifying against them for the sins they committed in this life. They will realize, too late, that their downfall was not caused by ignorance or accident — it was caused by the false assumptions they held about their Lord.
When they committed sins in secret, they thought they could hide from Allah. They believed that Allah did not know much of what they did, or that He would not hold them accountable for their deeds. This evil assumption about Allah — that He is unaware, negligent, or unjust — became the very rope that dragged them to destruction. It destroyed their souls, led them to persist in wrongdoing, and ultimately cast them into the Fire.
Now, on that terrible Day, they stand as complete losers. They have lost themselves — their chance at eternal bliss — and they have lost their families, for they cannot save them from the punishment. Their false assumptions about Allah did not protect them; instead, they sealed their fate.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, let this verse be a profound wake-up call for your heart. How often do we, too, fall into the trap of thinking that Allah does not see our secret actions, or that His mercy will cover us without any effort on our part to repent and reform? This is a dangerous illusion that has destroyed nations before us.
Allah is All-Knowing — nothing escapes His knowledge, not even the whisper of your heart or the glance of your eye. He is also Most Merciful, but His mercy is for those who turn to Him in sincerity, not for those who persist in sin while assuming they will never be questioned.
Do not let a false assumption about your Lord become the reason for your loss. Instead, hold the most beautiful thoughts about Allah: that He is watching over you with love, that He is ready to forgive you the moment you return to Him, and that He has prepared for His righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine.
Turn to Him now, before that Day comes when your own limbs will speak the truth about you. Repent sincerely, and let your assumption about Allah be one of hope, love, and reverence — for He is the Most Kind, the Most Forgiving, and He loves those who return to Him. Do not be among the losers; be among those who win His pleasure and His Paradise.
