And you were not covering yourselves, lest your hearing testify against you or your sight or your skins, but you assumed that Allah does not know much of what you do.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

You used to hide yourselves (seeking concealment).
That it should testify against you.
Your hearing (ears).
Your sight (eyes).
Your skins (bodies).
You assumed/thought.
Does not know much (of what you do).

Tafsir (Explanation):

On the Day of Judgment, when the disbelievers and sinners are confronted with their deeds, they will be utterly shocked to see their own ears, eyes, and skins bearing witness against them. In response to their bewilderment, they will be told: "You did not hide yourselves from sin out of fear that your hearing, sight, and skin would testify against you. Rather, you committed your wrongdoings openly, thinking that Allah—glorified and exalted—was unaware of much of what you did."

This verse exposes the root of their corruption: a false and wicked assumption about Allah. They did not truly believe that Allah sees and knows all things, nor did they accept the reality of resurrection and accountability. They thought they could hide their sins from the Creator, as if He were blind to their secret actions. This evil assumption led them to persist in disobedience without remorse, and ultimately, it destroyed them—casting them into the Fire, where they became among the losers who lost themselves and their families.

The deeper lesson here is profound: the limbs and faculties that Allah blessed us with in this world are not silent. They are witnesses that will speak the truth on the Day when nothing can be hidden. Your ear heard, your eye saw, and your skin felt—and all of it is recorded and will testify with perfect accuracy.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

O beloved reader, let this verse awaken your heart! Allah is Al-Khabeer (The All-Aware) and As-Samee' (The All-Hearing). Nothing escapes His knowledge—not even the whisper of your soul or the glance of your eye. Why, then, do we neglect His commands as if He does not see us? Why do we sin in secret, forgetting that the very limbs He gave us will one day speak against us?

This is not a message of fear alone, but of hope. If you turn back to Allah in sincere repentance before that Day arrives, He will forgive you and erase your sins, for He is Al-Ghafoor (The Oft-Forgiving), Ar-Raheem (The Most Merciful). Do not let the deception of this world fool you into thinking you are hidden from your Lord. He is closer to you than your own jugular vein, and His mercy is vast enough to embrace every sincere penitent.

So, purify your intention, guard your limbs, and live every moment with the awareness that Allah sees you, hears you, and knows your innermost thoughts. That awareness is the key to a life of righteousness and the gateway to eternal bliss in Jannah, where no witness will testify against you—only for you, by the grace of your Lord.

📜 Verse 20-24 — Fussilat

Until, when they reach it, their hearing and their eyes and their skins will testify against them of what they used to do.
And they will say to their skins, "Why have you testified against us?" They will say, "We were made to speak by Allah, who has made everything speak; and He created you the first time, and to Him you are returned.
And you were not covering yourselves, lest your hearing testify against you or your sight or your skins, but you assumed that Allah does not know much of what you do.
And that was your assumption which you assumed about your Lord. It has brought you to ruin, and you have become among the losers."
So [even] if they are patient, the Fire is a residence for them; and if they ask to appease [Allah], they will not be of those who are allowed to appease.
