So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Ma utitum" — Whatever you have been given or granted.
  • "Mata' al-hayat al-dunya" — The transient enjoyment and fleeting pleasures of this worldly life.
  • "Ma 'ind Allah" — What is with Allah, meaning the reward and eternal bliss He has prepared.
  • "Khayr wa abqa" — Better in quality and more lasting in duration.
  • "Yatawakkalun" — They place their trust and reliance entirely upon Him.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O people, reflect deeply on this profound truth: everything you have been given in this world — whether it be wealth, status, children, health, or any form of comfort — is nothing more than a temporary provision for the life of this world. It is like a passing shadow or a flower that blooms briefly and then withers away. No matter how much you accumulate, it will inevitably come to an end, and you will leave it all behind.

But what is with Allah — the eternal reward of Paradise, His pleasure, and His everlasting mercy — is far better in quality and far more enduring. It never fades, never diminishes, and never comes to an end. This everlasting treasure is specifically prepared for those who truly believe in Allah and His messengers, and who place their complete trust in their Lord alone, relying on Him in all their affairs — whether in times of ease or hardship, in moments of joy or trial. They do not let the glitter of this world deceive them, nor do they allow its temporary pleasures to distract them from what truly matters.

So, dear reader, let this verse be a gentle reminder to your heart: do not become attached to what will surely pass away. Instead, invest your efforts and your love in what will remain forever. The believer who trusts in Allah finds peace in knowing that the best is yet to come — a reward that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine. This is the promise of the Most Merciful, and His promise is always true.

📜 Verse 34-38 — Ash-Shura

Or He could destroy them for what they earned; but He pardons much.
And [that is so] those who dispute concerning Our signs may know that for them there is no place of escape.
So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely
And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,
And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend.
