Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Yastahzi'un – They mock, ridicule, or make fun of (someone) in a belittling manner.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse is a profound source of comfort and reassurance for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the face of the mockery and rejection he endured from his people. Allah reminds him that he is not alone in this experience—rather, it is the established pattern of history. Whenever a prophet was sent to a previous nation, that nation responded with scorn and derision. The prophets of old—Noah, Hud, Salih, Abraham, Moses, and many others—all faced the same ridicule from their communities. They were mocked, their messages were belittled, and they were treated with contempt.

Yet, look at how the story ended for those mockers. Allah destroyed them utterly, despite their superior strength, wealth, and numbers. They were more powerful than the Quraysh of Makkah, yet their power could not save them from Allah's punishment. Their fate serves as a timeless lesson: mockery of the truth does not change the truth; it only seals the fate of the mocker.

This verse carries a beautiful message of patience and perseverance for every believer. When you face ridicule for your faith, remember that you are walking the same path as the greatest of Allah's messengers. The mockery you face is not a sign of failure—it is a sign that you are on the right path. The enemies of truth have always used mockery as their weapon, but Allah's victory always comes to His sincere servants. So hold firm, be patient, and trust in Allah's promise. The same Allah who destroyed the mockers of the past is fully capable of dealing with those who mock His religion today. And the reward for those who remain steadfast in the face of scorn is far greater than any temporary comfort the mockers may enjoy in this world.

📜 Verse 5-9 — Az-Zukhruf

Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people?
And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples,
But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him.
And We destroyed greater than them in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded.
And if you should ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "They were created by the Exalted in Might, the Knowing."
