Key Words and Phrases:
- تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُنَا – Our verses are recited to them.
- بَيِّنَاتٍ – Clear, evident, and unambiguous signs.
- مَّا كَانَ حُجَّتَهُمْ – Their only argument or defense.
- ائْتُوا بِآبَائِنَا – Bring back our forefathers (resurrect them).
- إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ – If you are truthful (in your claim of resurrection).
Explanation of the Verse:
When the clear verses of Allah are recited to these polytheists who deny the resurrection, they have no sound argument, no logical proof, and no rational counter-evidence to refute the truth. Their sole response is not a reasoned debate but a defiant, mocking challenge: they say to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the believers, "Bring our dead forefathers back to life if you are truly truthful in your claim that we will be resurrected after death."
This demand is not a genuine request for guidance; it is an obstinate evasion of the truth. They ask for a miracle that would force belief upon them without any personal reflection or faith. Yet, Allah reminds us that the resurrection is a matter of His absolute power and wisdom, and it will occur at an appointed time — not according to the whims of the disbelievers. The Quran repeatedly demonstrates that even if such a miracle were granted, they would still not believe, for their hearts are sealed with arrogance and denial.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder the beauty of this verse. The disbelievers demanded to see their ancestors raised from the dead as proof of the Hereafter. But Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has given us something far greater: a living, eternal miracle — the Quran itself. It speaks to our intellect, our conscience, and our hearts. It challenges us to reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, and the very life that pulses within us. Every breath we take is a sign of His power, and every death we witness is a reminder of the inevitable return to Him.
Do we need to see the dead rise before our eyes to believe? Or can we see the countless signs around us — the revival of barren land after rain, the growth of a seed into a mighty tree, the cycle of life and death in every corner of existence? These are Allah's perpetual miracles, unfolding before us every single day. The resurrection is not a distant fantasy; it is the ultimate fulfillment of His justice and mercy. Those who believe and do righteous deeds will be rewarded with eternal bliss, and those who deny will face the consequences of their arrogance.
So, let us not be like those who demanded impossible signs while ignoring the clear truth. Instead, let us open our hearts to the Quran, embrace its guidance, and prepare for the Day when every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. That is the true success — and the only path to everlasting peace.
