Translation — Tafsir
Meanings of Key Words:
- Qurbanan (قُرْبَانًا): A means of drawing near; something offered as a sacrifice or act of worship to seek closeness to Allah.
- Iflahum (إِفْكُهُمْ): Their lie, falsehood, or fabrication.
- Yaftarun (يَفْتَرُونَ): They used to invent or falsely claim.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses a profound truth about the fate of those who place their trust in false deities. Allah poses a rhetorical question: Why did the idols and gods that these destroyed nations had taken as intercessors—offering them sacrifices and worship to bring themselves closer to Allah—not come to their aid when the punishment arrived? The answer is clear: those false gods utterly failed them. They vanished and abandoned them at the very moment they needed help most, unable to answer, protect, or intercede for them.
This outcome was the direct result of their own deception—the lie they had convinced themselves of, that these idols could benefit them or intercede on their behalf before Allah. Their entire belief system was built on falsehood and fabrication, and when the truth of their error was revealed, it was too late.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a powerful reminder for every soul to examine where it places its trust. How many people today still rely on created things—wealth, status, other human beings, or even their own desires—believing these will save them in times of crisis? Yet, just as the idols of the past vanished when their worshippers needed them most, so too will every false refuge fail us on the Day when only Allah’s mercy can avail.
The beauty of Islam is that it calls you to place your complete reliance on the One who never abandons His servants—Allah, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sufficient. He is always near, always hearing, and always capable of answering the call of those who turn to Him sincerely. So, let this verse inspire you to purify your heart from all forms of false dependence and to anchor your hope in Allah alone, for He is the only true Protector and the only One whose help never fails.
