📜

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

We eat from it, meaning partaking of the food as a blessing, not out of necessity.
Our hearts find tranquility, calmness, and certainty.
You have told us the truth regarding your prophethood and message.
Among those who bear witness to this sign and testify to its truth.

Tafsir (Explanation):

The disciples of Jesus (peace be upon him) responded to his prayer to Allah for a heavenly table spread with food, saying: "We desire to eat from it" — a meal of blessing and divine favor, not driven by hunger or need. They sought this as a means to strengthen their faith and deepen their conviction.

They continued: "And our hearts will be reassured" — meaning that witnessing this miraculous table with their own eyes would bring them complete tranquility and remove any trace of doubt or hesitation. The heart finds rest when it witnesses the power of Allah manifested in tangible signs.

"And we will know that you have indeed spoken the truth to us" — they wanted to ascend from mere intellectual acceptance to the certainty of direct observation. They wished to confirm, with absolute conviction, that Jesus was truly the Messenger of Allah, and that everything he conveyed from his Lord was genuine and authentic.

"And we will be among the witnesses to it" — they desired to bear testimony to this sign before those who were not present, so that they could become witnesses of Allah's oneness and His infinite power, and witnesses of Jesus's prophethood and message. This would make them carriers of this divine proof to others, strengthening the faith of the community and establishing the truth for all who would come after them.

This beautiful request from the disciples shows us the noble pursuit of certainty in faith. They did not ask for worldly pleasures or material gain — they asked for a sign that would elevate their iman (faith) from the level of hearing to the level of seeing, from knowledge to certainty. This teaches us, as believers, the importance of seeking deeper conviction in our faith and the value of witnessing Allah's signs with a sincere heart. When we witness the miracles of Allah in our lives — in the Quran, in creation, and in the answered prayers of the righteous — we too should let our hearts find peace and our faith grow stronger, and we should become witnesses to the truth for others around us.

📜 Verse 111-115 — Al-Maidah

And [remember] when I inspired to the disciples, "Believe in Me and in My messenger Jesus." They said, "We have believed, so bear witness that indeed we are Muslims [in submission to Allah]."
[And remember] when the disciples said, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table [spread with food] from the heaven? [Jesus] said," Fear Allah, if you should be believers."
They said, "We wish to eat from it and let our hearts be reassured and know that you have been truthful to us and be among its witnesses."
Said Jesus, the son of Mary, "O Allah, our Lord, send down to us a table [spread with food] from the heaven to be for us a festival for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You. And provide for us, and You are the best of providers."
Allah said, "Indeed, I will sent it down to you, but whoever disbelieves afterwards from among you - then indeed will I punish him with a punishment by which I have not punished anyone among the worlds."
