Interpretation of the Verse:
When Prophet Mūsā (Moses, peace be upon him) witnessed the stubborn defiance and rebellion of the Children of Israel — who refused to enter the Holy Land despite Allah’s clear command and even threatened to replace him as their leader — he turned to his Lord in complete humility and submission. He said: *"My Lord, I have no control over anyone except myself and my brother [Hārūn]."* This was an honest admission of human limitation, acknowledging that guidance and change of hearts are solely in Allah’s hands. He then prayed: *"So judge between us and the defiantly disobedient people"* — meaning: separate us from them, decree what we deserve and what they deserve, and relieve us of their burden.
This supplication reflects the profound character of a prophet who never relied on his own strength but turned entirely to Allah in times of crisis. Mūsā did not despair; rather, he recognised that ultimate authority belongs to Allah alone, and he sought divine justice and mercy.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a timeless lesson in humility and reliance on Allah. As believers, we often face situations where we cannot change others — no matter how sincere our advice or how strong our efforts. In such moments, like Mūsā, we should turn to Allah in du‘ā’, acknowledging our limitations and placing our trust in His infinite wisdom and power. This is not a sign of weakness, but of profound faith. It reminds us that our duty is to convey the message with sincerity, and the outcome is always in Allah’s hands. Let this beautiful example inspire you to never give up on calling others to goodness, while always anchoring your heart in the One who controls all hearts. Indeed, Allah answers the call of those who turn to Him with sincerity, and He never abandons His righteous servants.
