Word Meanings:

  • Tadhar (تَذَرُ): Leaves, spares, or abandons.
  • Atat (أَتَتْ): Came upon or passed over.
  • Ar-Ramim (الرَّمِيم): Something decayed, withered, or reduced to dust—like dry, crumbling bones or brittle, rotted remains.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse describes the devastating power of the wind that Allah sent upon the people of 'Ad as a punishment for their arrogance and rejection of the truth. It tells us that this wind left nothing untouched: whatever it passed over—whether living beings, wealth, or structures—it turned into something utterly lifeless and decayed, like dry, fragmented remnants that have lost all form and substance. The imagery is stark: what was once strong and solid became fragile and worthless, scattered like ashes or the brittle remains of bones that crumble at the slightest touch.

This was not an ordinary wind; it was a force of divine retribution, stripped of any blessing or mercy. It did not discriminate between the mighty and the weak, the rich or the poor—everything in its path was reduced to ruin. The verse serves as a powerful reminder of Allah's absolute power over His creation: He who gives life can also take it away in an instant, and no force on earth can withstand His decree.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this scene. The people of 'Ad were known for their immense strength and towering buildings—they thought themselves invincible. Yet, a single command from Allah turned their world into dust. This is a lesson for every soul that feels self-sufficient or forgets its Creator: no matter how strong you are, how advanced your technology, or how solid your plans, Allah's will prevails over all. The same wind that destroyed them can be a gentle breeze of mercy for the believers, or a storm of punishment for the disobedient.

Let this verse awaken your heart to the reality of your own life. Everything you own, every relationship you cherish, and every achievement you pride yourself on is temporary. What truly remains is your connection to Allah, your faith, and your deeds. Do not let the world deceive you into arrogance or negligence. Turn to Allah in humility, seek His forgiveness, and strive to live a life that pleases Him—so that you may be among those who are spared from His wrath and blessed with His mercy, both in this life and the Hereafter. Indeed, in these stories lies a profound lesson for those who truly reflect.

📜 Verse 40-44 — Adh-Dhariyat

So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.
And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind.
It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.
And in Thamud, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time."
But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.
