Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • تَوَلَّ (turn away): To withdraw, turn aside, or leave someone alone.
  • مَلُوم (blameworthy): One who is blamed or reproached for something.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O Messenger, turn away from these deniers and disbelievers, and do not exhaust yourself in grief and distress over their rejection. Leave them to their own devices until Allah’s decree concerning them arrives. You are not to be blamed in any way, for you have fulfilled your duty completely — you delivered the message entrusted to you with utmost sincerity and clarity. There is no shortcoming on your part, nor any negligence in your call. The burden of their guidance does not rest upon your shoulders; your responsibility was only to convey the truth, and that you have done perfectly.

This verse carries a profound lesson of comfort and reassurance for every caller to the truth. It teaches us that after striving sincerely in conveying the message, one should not torment oneself with anxiety over those who persist in rejection. The Prophet ﷺ was the most compassionate of people, yearning for the guidance of his people, yet Allah consoled him here, saying: "You have done your part; their hearts are in Our hands."

For the believer, this is a beautiful reminder that success lies in sincere effort, not in controlling outcomes. When you have spoken the truth with wisdom and beautiful preaching, you are free from blame — whether people accept or reject. So be at peace, for Allah is the One who guides whom He wills, and He is fully aware of those who are rightly guided. This verse also instills hope: the Prophet's turning away was not abandonment of the people, but rather a strategic withdrawal until Allah's command came — and indeed, after this, the conquests and mass conversions followed, proving that patience and trust in Allah always bear fruit.

📜 Verse 52-56 — Adh-Dhariyat

Similarly, there came not to those before them any messenger except that they said, "A magician or a madman."
Did they suggest it to them? Rather, they [themselves] are a transgressing people.
So leave them, [O Muhammad], for you are not to be blamed.
And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
