Key Words and Phrases:

  • Atawāsaw (أَتَوَاصَوْا): "Did they enjoin upon one another?" — a rhetorical question expressing astonishment and rebuke, implying that no such mutual counsel occurred.
  • Ṭāghūn (طَاغُونَ): Those who transgress all bounds, exceed the limits of obedience to Allah, and are arrogant in their rebellion against Him. It denotes a state of deep-seated tyranny and corruption.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse poses a striking rhetorical question: "Did the earlier and later generations of disbelievers make a mutual pact to reject the messengers?" The answer is an emphatic "No!" — they never met, nor did they consult one another, nor did they pass down a written agreement of denial. Yet, astonishingly, they all uttered the same words of rejection and stubbornness against their prophets. How could this be?

The verse then resolves this apparent mystery: "Rather, they are a people who are tyrants in transgression." It was not a shared conspiracy or a coordinated plan that united them in disbelief. Instead, it was the corruption of their hearts and the tyranny of their souls that made them alike. Their arrogance, their love for worldly power, and their refusal to submit to the truth produced identical outcomes. Just as water takes the shape of its container, their hearts — filled with the same pride and rebellion — produced the same words of denial.

This is a profound lesson in human nature: when people abandon the guidance of Allah and follow their whims, they become mirrors of one another in error. Their unity is not in truth but in falsehood, and their agreement is not from consultation but from the shared disease of arrogance.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

O dear reader, contemplate the wonder of this divine revelation. The Quran unveils the hidden reality that the disbelievers of every era are bound together by a single thread: the tyranny of the soul. This is a warning for us all — to examine our own hearts and ensure that we do not fall into the same pattern of arrogance that blinds us to the truth.

The beauty of Islam lies in its call to humility and submission. When we lower ourselves before our Creator, we break the chains of tyranny that bind us to falsehood. We become free — free from the arrogance that made past nations repeat the same mistakes, and free to embrace the light of guidance that leads to eternal success.

Let this verse be a mirror for your soul. Ask yourself: Are my words and actions aligned with the truth, or am I merely echoing the whispers of my ego? The path of the believers is one of mercy, wisdom, and submission. Choose that path, and you will find that Allah — the Most Merciful — is ever ready to guide those who sincerely seek Him.

📜 Verse 51-55 — Adh-Dhariyat

And do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.
Similarly, there came not to those before them any messenger except that they said, "A magician or a madman."
Did they suggest it to them? Rather, they [themselves] are a transgressing people.
So leave them, [O Muhammad], for you are not to be blamed.
And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.
