Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Haqq (الحق): The truth — here referring to the Qur'an and the message brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- Anbaa' (أنباء): News, tidings, or reports — the plural of *naba'*, meaning the outcomes and consequences of their actions.
- Yastahzi'oon (يستهزئون): To mock, ridicule, or deride — treating something with scorn and contempt.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse reveals a profound truth about the human condition when confronted with divine guidance. The disbelievers, when the truth of the Qur'an and the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reached them, did not merely reject it — they mocked it. They treated the revelation with derision and contempt, as if it were a jest or a tale of no consequence. This attitude stemmed from their arrogance, their attachment to the ways of their forefathers, and their failure to reflect on the signs of Allah spread throughout creation.
Yet, Allah, in His perfect justice and wisdom, does not leave such mockery unanswered. The verse delivers a powerful promise: "Soon will come to them the news of what they used to mock." This means that the very thing they ridiculed — the truth of the Qur'an, the reality of the Hereafter, the certainty of accountability — will become undeniably manifest to them. This will happen in two ways: in this world, through the victories of Islam and the humiliation of its opponents, and in the Hereafter, when they witness the punishment that awaits those who rejected the truth. On that Day, there will be no room for jest, and the scales of their mockery will be weighed with absolute justice.
Beloved reader, reflect on the gravity of this message. The Qur'an is not a book to be taken lightly, nor is the message of Islam a matter for amusement. When the truth reaches you, it demands a response — not of arrogance or ridicule, but of humility and sincerity. How many before us mocked the messengers, only to find themselves face to face with the very reality they denied? Let this verse be a reminder that Allah's promise is true, and that the wise person is the one who submits to the truth while there is still time, before the news of what they mocked arrives in a way that leaves no room for excuses. Embrace the Qur'an with an open heart, for it is the light that guides to everlasting success, and let not the fleeting pleasures of this world blind you to the eternal truth.
