Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Qirṭās (قِرْطَاس): Paper, parchment, or sheets of writing material.
- Lamasūhu (فَلَمَسُوهُ): They touched it with their own hands, a direct physical sensation that leaves no room for doubt.
- Siḥrun mubīn (سِحْرٌ مُبِين): Clear, evident, and undeniable magic or sorcery.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Imagine, O Messenger, if We had sent down to you a written Book from the heavens on actual paper—not just recited words, but a physical, tangible scripture—and these disbelievers had seen it with their own eyes and touched it with their own hands, feeling its pages and confirming its reality beyond any shadow of doubt. Even then, their stubbornness and arrogance would not have allowed them to believe. They would have turned to you and said, with hardened hearts and twisted tongues: "This is nothing but clear, manifest magic!"
This verse exposes the true nature of their rejection. It was never about evidence or proof; it was about pride, envy, and a deliberate refusal to submit to the truth. Allah is telling us that no matter what miracle or sign was presented, their hearts were sealed against faith. They demanded physical proof, yet when proof was within reach, they would still deny it—because their problem was not intellectual, but spiritual. The Qur'an itself is the greatest miracle, a living, eternal Book that challenges humanity to produce its like, and yet they called it magic.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the profound mercy of Allah. He did not leave us without guidance; He sent us a Book that speaks to the mind, the heart, and the soul—a Book whose eloquence, wisdom, and scientific truths have amazed scholars for over fourteen centuries. The disbelievers of old demanded paper and ink, but we have been given something far greater: a living miracle that remains fresh and relevant until the end of time.
Do not be like those who close their eyes to the truth even when it is placed before them. Open your heart to the Qur'an, let its verses illuminate your path, and taste the sweetness of faith that no magic can imitate and no doubt can shake. For the Qur'an is not the words of a sorcerer, but the speech of the Creator of the heavens and the earth—a light that guides to every good, and a mercy that never fades. Embrace it, and you will find peace that surpasses all understanding.
