Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- تُعْرَضُونَ — You will be presented/brought forth (before Allah for reckoning).
- خَافِيَةٌ — A hidden secret, a concealed deed, or anything kept hidden within the soul.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that Day — the Day of Resurrection — you, O people, will be brought forth and presented before your Lord for the final reckoning and recompense. Nothing about you will remain concealed. Every secret, every hidden intention, every deed done in the dark of night or in the privacy of seclusion will be laid bare before Allah, the All-Knowing, the All-Seeing. No matter how deeply you may have hidden your actions or thoughts from the eyes of creation, nothing escapes the knowledge of the Creator. He is fully aware of every secret, every whisper of the soul, and every hidden deed — whether great or small.
This is a moment of absolute truth, where all masks fall away and every person stands exposed before their Lord. The veils of this worldly life — which allowed people to hide their true selves — will be lifted completely. On that Day, there will be no room for denial, no opportunity for excuse, and no possibility of concealment. Every soul will face the reality of what it sent forth, and Allah’s knowledge of all things will be made manifest in the most perfect and complete manner.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse carries a profound message that should stir every heart. If you know that one day you will stand before Allah with nothing hidden, then let this awareness transform how you live today. The One who will expose all secrets on that Day is the same One who sees you now, in this very moment. He knows what is in your heart before you even speak it. So why not turn to Him sincerely now, while there is still time? Why not purify your intentions, correct your deeds, and seek His forgiveness for what has passed?
The beauty of Islam is that it does not leave you in despair over your past — rather, it opens the door of repentance wide open. Allah, the Most Merciful, says: "Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins" (Az-Zumar 39:53). So seize this opportunity before the Day arrives when no secret will remain hidden, and when nothing but your deeds will speak for you. Let this awareness be your companion, guiding you to a life of sincerity, righteousness, and devotion to your Lord — so that when you are presented before Him, you will meet Him with a heart that is pure, a record that is honorable, and a hope that is well-placed in His infinite mercy.
