Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • ظَنَنتُ (zanantu): Here it means certainty and firm conviction, not mere doubt or speculation.
  • مُلَاقٍ (mulāqin): One who will meet or encounter.
  • حِسَابِيَه (hisābiyah): My reckoning or account — the full accounting of one's deeds on the Day of Judgment.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this blessed verse, Allah tells us about the joyful statement of the believer who receives his book of deeds in his right hand on the Day of Resurrection. Filled with delight and happiness, he exclaims to those around him: "Take and read my book!" Then he reveals the secret behind his confidence and joy — he says: "Indeed, I was certain that I would meet my reckoning."

This means: In the worldly life, I firmly believed and had absolute conviction that I would be resurrected after death, that I would stand before my Lord, and that I would be held accountable for every deed I did — whether small or great. Because of this deep certainty, I prepared myself for that great Day. I believed in Allah, I performed righteous deeds, I avoided what He forbade, and I hastened to what He commanded. I did not live carelessly like those who denied the Hereafter; rather, I lived with the awareness that every moment counts and every action will be weighed.

This certainty was not a passing thought or a weak assumption — it was a firm, unshakable conviction that shaped his entire life. And now, on the Day of Judgment, he reaps the fruits of that conviction: he is in a pleasant life, in a lofty paradise whose fruits are within easy reach, and he is told: "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you sent forth in days past."

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, look at how this believer's certainty in the Hereafter transformed his entire existence! He did not wait for the Day of Judgment to prepare — he prepared while he still had time. His faith was not just words on his tongue; it was a living reality that guided his steps, purified his heart, and filled his deeds with sincerity.

The question for each of us is: Do we truly live with this certainty? Do we remember that we will meet our reckoning? If we do, our priorities will shift, our hearts will soften, and our deeds will multiply. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that the intelligent person is the one who holds himself accountable and works for what comes after death.

Let this verse be a gentle reminder that our time in this world is but a fleeting moment — and the real, everlasting life is yet to come. Whoever lives with the awareness of the reckoning will find joy in the meeting, and whoever forgets it will face regret that never ends. Choose today to be among those who say with joy: "Indeed, I was certain that I would meet my reckoning."
