Explanation of the Verse:
After the people of Thamud had killed the she-camel — the miraculous sign of Allah — and had persisted in their arrogance and disbelief, Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) turned away from them in sorrow and disappointment. He had done everything in his power to guide them, yet they had refused every call to truth. In this moment of farewell, he addressed them with a heart full of both grief and clarity: "O my people, I have indeed conveyed to you the message of my Lord — every command, every prohibition, every warning — and I gave you my sincere counsel, urging you toward what is good and cautioning you against what is evil. I left no stone unturned in guiding you. But the painful truth is that you do not love those who sincerely advise you. You rejected my counsel not because it was weak, but because your hearts had turned away from loving the truth and those who call to it."
This statement is both a declaration of his innocence before Allah and a final admonition to his people. He had fulfilled his duty as a prophet; their destruction was now a consequence of their own stubbornness. His words carry a tone of deep regret — not for himself, but for them — as he lamented their refusal to accept guidance that would have saved them in this life and the next.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this scene: a noble prophet, after years of patient calling, stands before a people who have chosen destruction over salvation. Yet even in his final words, he does not curse them or wish them harm — he simply states the truth and expresses his sorrow. This is the character of the messengers of Allah: they love their people and desire good for them, even when they are rejected.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson: sincerity in advice is a sign of true love and care. The one who truly loves you is the one who guides you to what pleases Allah, even if it is difficult to hear. Do not be like those who turned away from their prophet because they disliked the one who advised them. Rather, be among those who cherish sincere counsel, for it is a gift that opens the doors of guidance and saves you from regret.
And let this be a reminder to us all: the duty of a believer is to convey the truth with sincerity and patience, and then to leave the outcome to Allah. Success is not measured by how many people respond, but by how faithfully we delivered the message. May Allah make us among those who love the advisors of truth and who strive to be sincere advisors to others.
