Word Meanings:
- Al-Fāḥishah (الْفَاحِشَةَ): The abominable act, the extreme indecency, or the grave sin that reaches the utmost limit of ugliness and depravity.
- Mā Sabaqakum bihā min aḥad (مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ): No one among all of creation has preceded you in committing this act.
Explanation of the Verse:
And remember, O Messenger, the story of Prophet Lot (Lūṭ), peace be upon him, when he addressed his people—the inhabitants of Sodom—reproaching them and expressing his deep disapproval. He said to them: "Do you commit this abominable sin, this shameful act that reaches the peak of wickedness and indecency?" This was the act of approaching males with lust instead of women—a perversion of the natural disposition that Allah created in humans.
Prophet Lot emphasized to them that they were the very first people in all of human history to commit this heinous act. No nation before them, no individual among all the worlds of Allah's creation, had ever dared to engage in such a vile practice. It was Satan, the accursed one, who taught them this evil and beautified it in their hearts, leading them to innovate a sin that had never been known among the children of Adam before.
This verse highlights the gravity of this sin and the fact that it was an unprecedented transgression against the natural order established by Allah. The people of Lot not only committed this act but also persisted in it openly, rejecting the guidance of their prophet who called them to purity and righteousness.
A Call to Reflection and Guidance:
Dear reader, reflect on the mercy of Allah in sending prophets to guide humanity away from such destructive behaviors. The story of Prophet Lot is not merely a historical account; it is a timeless lesson for all generations. It teaches us that Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has set boundaries for our own good—protecting the family structure, preserving human dignity, and maintaining the purity of society.
Islam calls us to a life of chastity, honor, and respect for the natural order that Allah has created. By following the guidance of the Qur'an and the noble example of the prophets, we protect ourselves from the spiritual and social harms that result from deviating from Allah's commands.
Let this verse inspire you to appreciate the beauty of Islamic teachings, which safeguard the individual and society from all forms of corruption. And let it remind you that Allah's mercy is vast—whoever turns back to Him in sincere repentance, He forgives and welcomes with open arms. The door of repentance is always open, and Allah loves those who purify themselves and return to the straight path.
