Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Banin (بَنِينَ): Sons or male children.
- Shuhudan (شُهُودًا): Present, attending, or witnessing — meaning they are always around, never absent or away.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse continues the description of a particular arrogant disbeliever — identified in the context as al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah — who was blessed abundantly by Allah yet responded with ingratitude and stubborn opposition to the truth. After mentioning that Allah created him alone in his mother’s womb, with no wealth or children at that time, the verse now states that Allah also granted him sons who were always present — meaning they stayed with him in Makkah, attending his gatherings and never leaving him for travel or distant journeys. These sons were a source of pride, support, and strength for him, always by his side in every assembly, witnessing his affairs and standing with him.
This was part of the immense worldly favors Allah bestowed upon him: vast wealth, a large family, and a comfortable, easy life. Yet despite all this, he did not use these blessings to thank Allah or believe in His signs. Instead, he used his position and influence to fight the truth, mock the Qur'an, and oppose the Prophet ﷺ. His arrogance blinded him, and he even demanded more from Allah while rejecting His guidance — a clear sign of ingratitude and heedlessness.
A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound lesson. Allah grants wealth, children, health, and comfort — not as a sign of His love alone, but as a test. Will you be among those who recognize these blessings and use them to draw closer to Allah, or among those who become arrogant and turn away? The one described in this verse had everything the world could offer — money, sons, status — yet none of it saved him from the punishment of Allah when he chose to reject the truth.
Let this be a reminder for every one of us: true success is not in the abundance of worldly gifts, but in how we use them. A believer thanks Allah for every blessing, big or small, and knows that these gifts are a trust from Allah. The Qur'an invites you to open your heart, recognize your Lord’s favors, and respond with faith and gratitude — for that is the path to peace in this life and eternal bliss in the Hereafter. Do not let wealth or family distract you from the One who gave them to you. Turn to Him sincerely, and He will increase you in goodness and guide you to what is best.
