Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Suda (سُدًى): Left neglected, aimless, without purpose or accountability — neither commanded nor forbidden, neither rewarded nor punished.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Does this human being — the one who denies the Resurrection — truly think that he will be left utterly neglected, with no duties, no commands, no prohibitions, and no reckoning? Does he imagine that his existence is a mere accident, that he was created for nothing, and that he will end in nothing?

This rhetorical question strikes at the very heart of human arrogance. It challenges the one who lives as if he owes nothing to his Creator, as if his life has no meaning beyond his fleeting desires, and as if he will never stand before Allah to answer for his deeds. The verse exposes the absurdity of such a thought: how could the One who created you with wisdom and purpose simply abandon you to chaos?

Reflect, O human being — you were not created in vain, and you will not be left to wander aimlessly. Every breath you take, every step you make, every word you utter is recorded. The One who brought you into existence from nothing has the absolute power to bring you back after death, and He will. Your life is a precious trust, and you will be asked about how you spent it.

So let this verse awaken you from the slumber of heedlessness. Do not live like an animal that eats and drinks and then dies. You are a dignified creation, honored by Allah, and you have a noble purpose: to worship your Lord, to do good, and to prepare for the Day when you will meet Him. That Day is real, the accountability is certain, and the reward or punishment is everlasting. Will you then live as if you will be left alone, with no return and no reckoning? Surely not — and your own intellect, if it is sound, will testify to this truth.

📜 Verse 34-38 — Al-Qiyamah

Woe to you, and woe!
Then woe to you, and woe!
Does man think that he will be left neglected?
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
