Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Nutfah: A drop of fluid, referring to the seminal fluid in its earliest stage.
- Maniyy: Sperm or semen, the fluid emitted during ejaculation.
- Yumna: Poured forth or emitted, i.e., discharged into the womb.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a powerful rhetorical question directed at the human being who denies the resurrection and the Day of Judgment. It asks: Was this person not once a mere drop of emitted fluid, weak and insignificant, poured into the womb? This is a reminder of the humble origin of every human being. From this tiny, despised drop, Allah—by His infinite power and wisdom—shaped a complete human being, with perfect form, hearing, sight, and intellect. He then created from this same origin the two sexes: male and female.
The verse calls upon the human being to reflect: If Allah was able to create you from nothing—from a drop of fluid that you had no control over—then is He not equally able to recreate you after death? Indeed, He is. The One who originated creation with such perfection is fully capable of bringing it back to life for accountability. This is a call to awaken the conscience, to realize that we were not created in vain, and that the same Divine Power that brought us into existence will surely bring us back for judgment.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a profound invitation to humility and faith. It strips away all arrogance and pride, reminding us that every human being—regardless of wealth, status, or power—began as a tiny, unnoticed drop. Yet, Allah honored us with existence, shaped us, and gave us purpose. If we truly ponder this, we will realize that our Creator is not only capable of bringing us back but also deserving of our worship and obedience. The resurrection is not a distant fantasy; it is a certainty rooted in the very reality of our creation. So, let us turn to Allah with gratitude, submit to His guidance, and prepare for the day when we will stand before Him—for the One who created us from a drop will surely bring us back to life.
