Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Dawābb (الدواب): All living creatures that move upon the earth, including humans and animals.
- Sharr (شر): The worst or most evil.
- ʿinda Allāh (عند الله): In the sight and judgment of Allah.
- Lā yuʾminūn (لا يؤمنون): They do not believe; they persist in disbelief and will not accept faith.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Most High, declares that the worst of all creatures that crawl or walk upon the face of the earth—in His sight and according to His divine judgment—are those who have rejected faith and persisted in disbelief. These are the people who have closed their hearts and minds to the truth, refusing to believe in Allah’s Oneness, denying His messengers, and rejecting His revealed laws. Their disbelief is not a matter of ignorance or lack of evidence; rather, it is a stubborn and deliberate choice. Even if every sign and miracle were shown to them, they would still turn away, because their faculties of reason, hearing, and sight have become sealed due to their own obstinacy. They have hardened their hearts against guidance, and thus no hope remains for their acceptance of faith.
This verse serves as a profound warning and a call to reflection. It reminds us that the true measure of a person’s worth is not wealth, status, or power, but faith and obedience to Allah. Those who reject the truth after it has been made clear to them place themselves in the lowest rank among all of Allah’s creation. Yet, at the same time, this verse is an invitation for every soul to examine its own state: Are we among those who hasten to believe and submit, or are we among those who turn away? Allah, in His infinite mercy, has left the door of repentance open for every sinner until the moment of death. So let this be a gentle nudge for every reader to draw closer to Allah, to soften the heart with His remembrance, and to embrace the light of faith before it is too late. For the believer is honored in the sight of Allah, while the persistent disbeliever is the worst of all creatures—a truth that should inspire us to seek guidance and hold fast to it with sincerity and gratitude.
