Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- حَسْبُكَ (Hasbuka): Sufficient for you, enough for you, or the One Who suffices you.
- اتَّبَعَكَ (Ittaba'aka): Followed you, adhered to you, believed in you and remained steadfast on your path.
- مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (Minal Mu'minin): From among the believers — those who have sincerely embraced faith and act upon it.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Prophet, Allah alone is sufficient for you — He is your complete protector, supporter, and defender against all harm. And He is also sufficient for the believers who follow you, standing firm with you in faith and obedience. This verse was revealed in the context of the Battle of Badr, when the Prophet ﷺ and his companions faced a formidable enemy, and Allah reassured them that His divine aid was more than enough to overcome any opposition. The meaning is not merely that Allah is sufficient for the Prophet and the believers individually, but that He is sufficient for each one of them collectively — His power, His care, and His victory encompass all who place their trust in Him. So let the Prophet ﷺ and every believer rest their hearts in complete reliance upon Allah, for He never abandons those who sincerely depend on Him.
A Call to Faith and Reliance:
This verse carries a timeless and profound message for every Muslim: no matter how overwhelming the challenges, how numerous the enemies, or how heavy the burdens of life may seem, Allah is enough for you. When you truly internalize this, your heart finds a peace that no worldly support can provide. The believers who stood with the Prophet ﷺ at Badr were few in number and meager in equipment, yet they triumphed because their trust was not in their own strength but in the power of Allah. Today, as you face your own battles — whether against your inner desires, the pressures of society, or the trials of life — remember that the same Allah who sufficed His Prophet and the early believers is your sufficiency as well. Turn to Him, rely on Him, and let your heart be at ease, for whoever places their trust in Allah, He is truly their best Guardian and Supporter. This is the essence of true faith: not the absence of fear, but the certainty that Allah's help is greater than any fear you may face.
