Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Khianataka (خِيَانَتَكَ): Betrayal or treachery against you (O Prophet), i.e., breaking the covenant and acting deceitfully.
- Faqad Khanu Allaha (فَقَدْ خَانُوا اللَّهَ): They have already betrayed Allah, meaning they committed disbelief and broke their pledge to Him.
- Fa-amkana minhum (فَأَمْكَنَ مِنْهُمْ): He gave you power over them, enabling you to overcome them through killing and capture.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Prophet, if these prisoners whom you have released — whether out of grace or ransom — intend to betray you again by breaking their word and showing you one thing while concealing another, do not let that grieve you or shake your resolve. For they have already betrayed Allah before this very moment: they disbelieved in Him, fought against His religion, and broke every sacred bond. Yet Allah gave you victory over them at the Battle of Badr — some of them were killed, and others were taken captive. So if they revert to treachery, let them expect the same fate once more, for Allah will again grant you dominance over them. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing of what lies within their hearts and what they plot in secret, and He is All-Wise in His management of His servants’ affairs — He knows when to delay, when to punish, and what is most fitting for every situation.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: the One who protected His Prophet from the schemes of the treacherous is the same Lord who watches over you today. Place your trust in Allah alone, for He never abandons those who rely on Him. When people deceive you, remember that their deception cannot harm you except by Allah’s leave — and He is fully aware of every hidden intention. Let this certainty fill your heart with peace: the All-Knowing, All-Wise does not let betrayal go unnoticed, nor does He fail to reward patience and sincerity. So hold firm to your faith, forgive as the Prophet forgave, but never forget that ultimate justice rests with the Most Merciful, who turns every trial into a means of elevation for the believers. And what a beautiful religion this is — one that teaches us both compassion toward others and unwavering trust in the Divine plan!
