Surah 'Abasa — Verse 2

Tafsir (Explanation):

The verse explains the reason behind the frown and turning away mentioned in the previous verse. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was deeply engaged in conversation with the leaders of Quraysh, hoping to guide them to Islam. He saw great potential in their conversion—if they embraced the faith, many others would follow.

At that moment, Abdullah ibn Umm Maktum, a blind believer, approached the Prophet seeking knowledge and guidance. He interrupted the conversation, unaware of the sensitive situation. The Prophet, being human, felt the weight of the moment and showed signs of displeasure on his face, turning away from the blind man to continue his important discussion with the Quraysh leaders.

This verse, however, is not merely a historical account—it is a profound divine lesson. Allah, the Most Merciful, gently corrected His beloved Prophet to teach humanity an eternal principle: sincerity and eagerness for guidance are more valuable in His sight than worldly status or influence. The blind man's pure heart, seeking truth, was dearer to Allah than the powerful leaders whose hearts were still closed.

This beautiful incident shows us the perfection of the Prophet's character—even his human moments of preference were corrected by Allah out of immense love, to set the highest standard of character for all believers. It teaches us to honor every seeker of truth, regardless of their social standing, and to prioritize those who come to us with sincere hearts over those who merely hold worldly positions.
