Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Dhikr (ذِكْر): Reminder, admonition, or a message that brings to mind what is beneficial and warns against what is harmful.
- Al-'Alameen (لِلْعَالَمِينَ): All of creation—humanity and jinn alike, across all times and places.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse comes as a powerful conclusion to a series of divine proofs and signs that have just been presented. After the heavens, the stars, the mountains, the seas, and the souls themselves have all borne witness to the truth of the Qur'an and the reality of the Hereafter, Allah poses a rhetorical question that shakes the heart: "So where are you going with your minds?"—meaning, after all this overwhelming evidence, what path of denial or doubt could possibly remain?
Then comes the answer, clear and decisive: "It is nothing but a Reminder to all the worlds." The Qur'an is not a book of magic, not a poetic fabrication, not a tale of the ancients—it is a living, eternal reminder. It reminds the human being of who he is, where he came from, where he is going, and what his Creator requires of him. It is a reminder for the jinn and for humanity, for the Arab and the non-Arab, for the one who lived at the time of revelation and for every generation that will come until the end of time.
This reminder is not forced upon anyone. It is presented as a mercy and a guidance, open to all who sincerely seek the truth. The verse that follows clarifies that the one who benefits from it is the one who wills to walk straight upon the path of righteousness—and even that will is only realized through the grace and will of Allah, the Lord of all creation.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and consider: the Qur'an has reached you today, across fourteen centuries, as a personal message from your Lord to you. It is not a historical document to be admired from afar—it is a living reminder, calling you to wake up from heedlessness, to purify your heart, to draw closer to your Creator, and to find peace in His remembrance. Every verse you read is a light for your path, every command is a protection for your soul, and every prohibition is a mercy for your life. Open your heart to it, and you will find that it speaks directly to your deepest needs, your greatest fears, and your highest aspirations. This is the gift of your Lord—will you turn away from it, or will you embrace it and let it transform your life? The choice is yours, and the door of mercy is wide open.
