Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Shuhood (شُهُود): Present, witnessing, or attending; they were present at the scene of torture, observing and overseeing what was being done.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse describes the tyrants who dug a great trench in the earth and filled it with blazing fire to torment the believers. Here, Allah tells us that these oppressors were not absent or unaware of their crimes—rather, they were present, sitting around the pit, watching the believers being burned alive. They witnessed the suffering they inflicted with their own eyes, fully conscious of every act of cruelty they committed. The king and his accomplices were all there, looking on as the believers were subjected to unimaginable pain, yet their hearts were hardened and they felt no mercy.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that Allah, too, is a Witness over all that happens. Nothing escapes His sight. The oppressors may have been witnesses to their own crimes, but Allah is the Supreme Witness over them and over every deed—whether good or evil. Their presence at the scene of injustice did not go unnoticed by the Lord of the heavens and the earth.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder this scene: tyrants sitting comfortably, watching believers burn for no crime other than their faith in Allah. Yet, what was the outcome? The believers were honored with Paradise, while the oppressors were left with nothing but the weight of their sins. This verse teaches us that no matter how powerful oppressors may seem in this world, their actions are recorded, and they will face the ultimate justice of Allah, who is ever-present and ever-watching.

For the believers, this is a source of immense comfort. When you face hardship or persecution for your faith, know that Allah sees every tear, every moment of pain, and every act of patience. He is the Best of Witnesses, and He never abandons His righteous servants. Hold firm to your faith, for the Hereafter is far better and more enduring than anything this world can offer. The oppressors may have their moment, but the believers have the eternal reward of Allah’s pleasure and Paradise.

📜 Verse 5-9 — Al-Buruj

[Containing] the fire full of fuel,
When they were sitting near it
And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.
And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,
To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness.
