Surah At-Tariq — Verse 12

The earth, seemingly solid and lifeless, bursts open to reveal life in all its forms—green shoots piercing through dry soil, roots spreading beneath the surface, and fruits emerging to nourish creation. This splitting is a daily miracle that we often overlook, yet it demonstrates Allah’s absolute control over life and death, growth and decay.

The oath by the earth that splits is paired with the oath by the sky that pours down rain, as mentioned in the preceding verse. Together, they point to the cycle of sustenance: the sky sends down water, and the earth splits open to receive it and bring forth provision. This is a direct reminder of Allah’s generosity and care for His creatures—He does not leave us without sustenance, but rather orchestrates the heavens and the earth to serve us.
