Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Akhirah (الْآخِرَةُ): The Hereafter — the eternal life that begins after death, encompassing the resurrection, judgment, and the everlasting abode of Paradise or Hell.
- Khayr (خَيْرٌ): Better, more excellent, superior in quality and value.
- Abqā (أَبْقَىٰ): More lasting, more enduring, more permanent.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) declares that the Hereafter is not merely equal to this worldly life — it is far better and far more enduring. Everything that this world offers, no matter how magnificent, is temporary and fleeting. Its pleasures fade, its joys diminish, and its treasures eventually decay or are lost. In stark contrast, the Hereafter offers what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine — eternal bliss that never ends, everlasting contentment that never fades, and rewards that are infinitely superior to anything this world can provide.
The superiority of the Hereafter is not just in quantity but in quality. The worldly life is limited, constrained by time, space, and human weakness. The Hereafter, however, is boundless — its pleasures are pure, its joys are untainted by sorrow, and its duration is infinite. While the world's delights are mixed with pain, worry, and eventual loss, the delights of Paradise are absolute and permanent. This verse serves as a gentle yet powerful reminder that the wise person invests in what lasts forever rather than being deceived by what will inevitably vanish.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, let this verse awaken your heart! If you were offered a choice between a beautiful sandcastle that the tide will surely wash away and a magnificent eternal palace that will never crumble, which would you choose? The answer is obvious — yet many of us live as if this fleeting world were our final destination. Allah, in His infinite mercy, reminds us that the Hereafter is better and more lasting, so that we may direct our efforts, our time, and our love toward what truly matters. Every good deed you do today is a seed planted for an eternal harvest. Every sacrifice you make for Allah's sake is an investment in a life that never ends. So let your heart long for Paradise, let your deeds be sincere, and let your hope be anchored in the eternal bliss that awaits those who strive for their Lord's pleasure. This is the true success — a life that is better and everlasting!
