Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Bariyyah (البرية): All of creation; every creature that Allah has brought into existence.
  • Khālidīn (خالدين): Remaining forever, eternally, without end.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, the Most Just and All-Knowing, declares in this verse the ultimate fate of those who persist in disbelief after the truth has been made clear to them. This includes two groups: the People of the Book (the Jews and Christians) who rejected the final Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) despite knowing his truthfulness from their own scriptures, and the polytheists who worshipped idols and associated partners with Allah.

Their destiny is the Fire of Hell, where they will remain forever—not for a limited period, but eternally, without any hope of escape or relief. This is the just recompense for their arrogance and stubborn rejection of the truth.

Then Allah describes them with a powerful and sobering characterization: "Those are the worst of all creation." They are not merely misguided; they are the most evil of all beings that Allah has created. This is because they were given clear proofs, sent messengers, and received divine guidance—yet they turned away in disbelief and hostility. Their evil surpasses that of others because their rejection came after knowledge and evidence, making their crime greater and their punishment more severe.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder this verse deeply. The Creator of the heavens and the earth, who knows the innermost secrets of every heart, has clearly defined the path to success and the path to ruin. He did not leave us without guidance—He sent messengers, revealed books, and showed us the way to eternal happiness.

The people described in this verse were not punished for being ignorant or for lacking access to the truth. Rather, they were punished because they knew the truth and still rejected it out of pride, envy, or love of this worldly life.

How fortunate, then, are those who open their hearts to the truth, who submit to their Creator with sincerity, and who follow the final revelation with love and devotion! They are described in the following verses as the best of creation—a title of immense honor and dignity.

Let this verse be a wake-up call for every soul: The time to return to Allah is now, before the door of repentance closes and the reality of the Hereafter becomes undeniable. Allah's mercy is vast, and He accepts the repentance of all who turn to Him sincerely. Do not let your past mistakes define your future—for the gates of forgiveness are open until the final hour.

May Allah guide us all to the straight path and protect us from being among those who reject the truth.

📜 Verse 4-8 — Al-Bayyinah

Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence.
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.
Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures.
Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.
