Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • أَوْحَىٰ لَهَا: Inspired or commanded it (the earth) — meaning Allah granted the earth the ability to speak and reveal what took place upon it, by His divine will and power.

Explanation of the Verse:

On the Day of Judgment, the earth will not remain silent. It will speak and bear witness to every deed — whether good or evil — that was committed upon its surface. This verse explains the reason behind that extraordinary testimony: it is because Allah, your Lord, has commanded and inspired the earth to do so. He has given it the power of speech and the permission to disclose all that occurred upon it. This is not something the earth does on its own; rather, it is a direct act of divine will, demonstrating that Allah’s power knows no limits — He can make even the inanimate earth a witness over His creation.

This serves as a profound reminder that nothing is ever hidden from Allah. The very ground you walk on, the earth that carries you through your daily life, will one day speak up and testify about your actions. No secret deed, no hidden intention, and no private moment will remain concealed. The earth has been entrusted with this testimony by its Creator, and it will fulfill that trust on the Day when all accounts are settled.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine standing on that Day while the earth beneath your feet narrates your story — the times you walked to pray, the times you passed by someone in need, the moments of kindness you showed, and the moments of neglect or harm. This verse invites you to live with awareness, knowing that you are never alone and that your actions are being recorded by a witness that will not falter. Let this inspire you to fill your days with goodness, for the earth that carries you today will be the witness that speaks for you tomorrow — either in your favor or against you. Turn to your Lord now, seek His forgiveness, and strive to leave a legacy of righteousness that the earth will proudly testify to.
