Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Nush'hi (نُصْحِي): My sincere advice and counsel, given out of genuine care and goodwill.
- Ughwiya-kum (يُغْوِيَكُمْ): To lead you astray, to cause you to go astray from the path of guidance, and to bring about your ruin and destruction.
- Turja'oon (تُرْجَعُونَ): You will be returned, brought back, and made to stand before Him.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this profound verse, Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) addresses his people after they rejected his message and asked him to stop his preaching. He makes it clear that his sincere advice and tireless efforts to guide them will not benefit them if Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has decreed that they should be led astray and destroyed because of their persistent stubbornness and denial of the truth.
The meaning here is: "My sincere counsel and my earnest striving to call you to faith will not avail you anything, if Allah intends to misguide you and bring about your ruin due to your obstinate rejection of the truth." This is not a statement of despair, but rather a profound declaration of the reality that guidance and misguidance are entirely in the Hands of Allah alone. No matter how sincere the caller, no matter how eloquent the message, hearts do not change except by Allah's Will.
Then comes the powerful reminder: "He is your Lord" — He is your Creator, your Sustainer, and your Master. All affairs belong to Him alone. It is He who guides whom He wills and leads astray whom He wills, in accordance with His perfect justice and wisdom. And "to Him you will all return" — this is a solemn declaration that carries within it both a warning and a threat. Every single soul will stand before its Lord on the Day of Judgment, and every deed — whether good or evil — will be accounted for with perfect justice.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer and every caller to the truth. It teaches us that our role is only to convey the message with sincerity and excellence — the outcome is entirely in Allah's Hands. This relieves the believer from anxiety and despair when people reject the truth, for we are not responsible for their hearts; we are only responsible for delivering the message beautifully.
At the same time, this verse is a profound warning to every soul: do not take Allah's blessings for granted. If you persist in arrogance and rejection of the truth, you risk being left to your own devices. But Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance wide open. He says: *"Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful"* (Az-Zumar 39:53).
So seize this precious moment, turn to your Lord before the appointed time arrives, and let the reminder of this verse awaken your heart. For the One to whom you will return is not only a Just Judge — He is also the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. And His door remains open for those who sincerely seek Him.
