Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- الصَّيْحَةُ (As-Sayhah): The overwhelming blast or cry of punishment—a severe, deafening sound sent by Allah as a divine chastisement.
- مُصْبِحِينَ (Musbihīn): Entering the time of morning; i.e., at dawn, when they had just begun their day.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah Almighty informs us of the fate of the people of Thamud, who rejected the message of Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) and persisted in their arrogance and disbelief. Despite the miracles they witnessed—such as the she-camel coming forth from the rock—they remained obstinate and even plotted to harm her. So, Allah’s punishment descended upon them in a manner that left no room for escape: a single, terrifying blast seized them at the break of dawn, just as they were rising to face a new day. This timing was itself a sign of divine wisdom—they were struck at a moment when they felt most secure, thinking they had the whole day ahead of them, yet their lives were cut short in an instant. Their wealth, their strong fortresses carved into the mountains, and their physical power were of no avail whatsoever. Nothing could shield them from the decree of their Lord, for when Allah’s command comes, no force in the heavens or the earth can repel it.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder this scene: a people who were given every chance to believe, who were shown clear signs, yet they turned away in pride. Their end was sudden and absolute. This story is not merely history—it is a living lesson for every soul. It reminds us that no matter how strong we are, how advanced our technology, or how secure our homes, we are always in the hands of Allah. The same Allah who sent that blast to Thamud is the One who watches over us every moment. He is Most Merciful, giving us time to repent, but He is also Just, and His punishment is severe when His signs are persistently rejected. Let this verse awaken your heart: do not delay your return to Allah, for you do not know when your own morning will come. Embrace faith with sincerity, and let the Qur’an guide you to a life of peace and success in this world and the Hereafter. Indeed, in these stories there is a profound reminder for those who reflect.
