Word Meanings:
- الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا (Those who wronged): The polytheists and disbelievers who wronged themselves by associating partners with Allah and rejecting His messengers.
- الْعَذَابَ (The punishment): The torment of Hellfire in the Hereafter.
- فَلَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمْ (It will not be lightened for them): The punishment will not be reduced or eased in any way.
- وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ (Nor will they be reprieved): They will not be granted any delay, respite, or opportunity to escape.
Explanation of the Verse:
When the wrongdoers—those who persisted in disbelief and oppression—finally see the punishment of the Hereafter with their own eyes, a terrifying reality will dawn upon them. At that moment, all hope of relief will vanish. The punishment will not be lightened for them, not even for a single moment, nor will they be granted any respite or delay. There will be no plea for mercy that is answered, no second chance, and no way out. They will be cast into the Fire, remaining there forever, enduring its severity without any reduction or pause.
This verse serves as a profound warning to humanity: the decision of the Hereafter is final and absolute. The mercy of Allah is vast in this worldly life—He gives countless opportunities to repent, turn back, and seek His forgiveness. But once the Hereafter begins, the door of repentance closes forever. The wrongdoers will realize, too late, the magnitude of their loss.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is not meant to frighten you away from hope—it is meant to awaken your heart while there is still time. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance for you right now. He says in another verse: *"Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins."* (Az-Zumar 39:53). So do not let your past mistakes define you. Turn to Him today, before that Day arrives when no relief will be found and no delay will be granted. The choice is yours: return to your Lord now, and you will find Him ever-forgiving, ever-merciful. But if you persist in wrongdoing, then know that His justice is certain, and His punishment is severe. Let this verse be a wake-up call—a gentle yet firm reminder that the Hereafter is real, and the time to act is now.
