Surah Al-Isra — Verse 27

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, the Most High, declares that those who squander their wealth in disobedience and extravagance are the brothers of the devils. This brotherhood is one of resemblance and alliance—just as the devils are the embodiment of evil, corruption, and rebellion against Allah, so too do the wasteful share in these traits. They follow the whispers of Satan, spending their resources on what angers Allah, and in doing so, they become his loyal companions in misguidance.

The verse then emphasizes that Satan is intensely ungrateful to his Lord. Despite the immense blessings and respite Allah granted him, Satan responded with arrogance, defiance, and relentless enmity. He does not command anything except that which displeases Allah, and he works tirelessly to lead humanity astray. Thus, those who imitate him in wastefulness and disobedience align themselves with this ingratitude, distancing themselves from the gratitude that Allah’s true servants embody.

Choose gratitude, choose moderation, and let your wealth be a means of drawing closer to your Lord, not a bridge to His displeasure. Indeed, the one who controls his spending controls a door to Paradise, while the wasteful opens a door to regret.
