The Interpretation:
Your Lord, O noble Messenger, is the Sole Disposer of all affairs. He alone expands the provision and livelihood for whom He wills, granting abundance and ease in wealth, health, and sustenance. And He alone restricts and measures it for whom He wills, narrowing their means and testing them with scarcity. This is not done arbitrarily or without purpose—rather, it flows from His perfect wisdom and absolute knowledge of what is best for each servant. He knows that some hearts thrive in abundance and remain grateful, while others are purified and elevated through patience in times of constraint.
Indeed, He is Ever-Aware of His servants—nothing about their circumstances, their struggles, their hidden intentions, or their true needs escapes His knowledge. He is All-Seeing of their outward states and their inward realities. He knows the one who will be corrupted by wealth and the one who will be saved by poverty, the one who will be grateful in ease and the one who will be patient in hardship. So He decrees for each soul precisely what serves its ultimate good, even if the wisdom behind it remains hidden from human perception.
A Call to Reflection and Trust:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: your provision is not determined by your effort alone, nor by the apparent causes of this world, but by the will of the All-Wise, All-Knowing Lord. When you see someone blessed with abundant wealth, do not envy them—for you do not know the test that wealth carries. And when you face financial hardship, do not despair—for you do not know the mercy hidden within that trial. The One who gives and withholds is the same Lord who created you, knows your heart, and loves what is best for you more than you love it for yourself.
This verse invites you to a life of profound trust in Allah. Surrender your worries about provision to Him, for He has already written your share with perfect knowledge. Strive with sincerity, work with excellence, but anchor your heart in the certainty that your Lord is Khabīr and Basīr—He sees your efforts, knows your needs, and will never abandon you. Let this certainty fill your heart with peace, and let it transform your relationship with wealth: be generous when you have, be patient when you lack, and in all states, be grateful to the One who knows what you do not know.
