Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

I did not make them witnesses" – meaning, I did not bring them to observe or be present.
  • خَلْقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ – "the creation of the heavens and the earth" – the act of bringing them into existence.
  • وَلَا خَلْقَ أَنفُسِهِمْ – "nor the creation of themselves" – meaning, they were not present even at their own creation.
  • الْمُضِلِّينَ – "those who lead astray" – referring to Iblis (Satan) and his progeny, and all who misguide others.
  • عَضُدًا – "as assistants" – literally meaning a strong arm or supporter; here, it means helpers or allies.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah (Exalted be He) declares His absolute independence and self-sufficiency, while exposing the utter insignificance of those whom the polytheists and misguided ones took as protectors and allies besides Him. Allah says: *"I did not call them to witness the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor even the creation of their own selves."*

This means that when Allah created the magnificent universe — the vast heavens, the solid earth, and everything within them — He did not summon Iblis, his offspring, or any of the so-called "gods" or "helpers" to be present, to assist, or to offer counsel. They were not even existing at that time! And when Allah created these very beings themselves, they had no awareness of their own coming into existence. They were nothing, and then Allah brought them into being by His sheer will and power alone, without any partner, assistant, or advisor.

Then Allah continues: *"Nor would I ever take those who mislead others as assistants."* This is a decisive rejection of any notion that Allah needs the help of the devils — whether from among the jinn or humans — in His creation, His governance, or His command. He is Al-Khāliq (The Creator), Al-Mudabbir (The Disposer of all affairs), Al-Ghanī (The Self-Sufficient). He stands in absolutely no need of any supporter, helper, or intercessor from among His creation.

So the verse poses a powerful rhetorical challenge to those who, despite all this, turn away from Allah and take the devils and the misguided as their protectors and allies. How can they attribute any share of Allah's divinity or lordship to these weak, created beings who were not even present at their own creation? How can they seek help from those who cannot even help themselves?

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse. The One who created the heavens and the earth without any witness, without any helper, without any advisor — He is the One who deserves your worship, your love, and your complete trust. He is the One who sustains you every moment, who hears your prayers, and who responds to your calls.

Why then would you turn to the weak and the helpless? Why would you seek protection from those who cannot even protect themselves from a single harm? Allah is telling you: *I am sufficient for you. I am your Protector. I am your Helper. Come to Me, and I will never abandon you.*

This verse is an invitation to purify your faith (Tawheed) and to direct all your devotion, hope, and reliance to Allah alone. It is a reminder that the devils — no matter how powerful they may seem in this world — are nothing but weak creatures who will be thrown into the Fire on the Day of Judgment. Their followers will be asked: *"Where are those you used to worship besides Allah? Can they help you or even help themselves?"* (Ash-Shu'arā': 93-94). And they will have no answer.

So, my beloved reader, hold firmly to the rope of Allah. Make Him your only ally and supporter. For He is the One who created you, who knows your struggles, and who is always near. He says: *"And when My servants ask you concerning Me — indeed I am near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me."* (Al-Baqarah: 186).

Let this verse strengthen your conviction that Allah alone is worthy of worship, and that true success lies in submitting to Him and following His guidance. May Allah make us among those who truly understand His words and act upon them.

📜 Verse 49-53 — Al-Kahf

And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one.
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.
I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguiders as assistants.
And [warn of] the Day when He will say, "Call 'My partners' whom you claimed," and they will invoke them, but they will not respond to them. And We will put between them [a valley of] destruction.
And the criminals will see the Fire and will be certain that they are to fall therein. And they will not find from it a way elsewhere.
