Surah Al-Baqarah — Verse 225

Such inadvertent utterances carry no sin, no expiation, and no punishment, for Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it has truly intended.

However, Allah makes it clear that He will hold you accountable for what your hearts have genuinely earned and deliberately resolved upon. If you swear an oath with full intention and then break it, or if you swear falsely knowing the truth, then you are responsible before Allah for that commitment. The verse concludes with two of Allah's most beautiful attributes: Al-Ghafūr (The All-Forgiving) and Al-Halīm (The Forbearing). Allah is Ever-Forgiving to those who turn to Him in repentance, wiping away their sins with His boundless mercy.
