Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Jibril (Gabriel): The angel entrusted by Allah with delivering revelation to His prophets.
- Nazzalahu (he brought it down): The revelation of the Qur'an from the Preserved Tablet to the heart of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- Musaddiqan (confirming): Affirming and agreeing with the truth that came before it in previous scriptures.
- Hudan (guidance): A guide that leads people out of darkness and misguidance into the light of truth.
- Bushra (good news): Glad tidings of success and Paradise for those who believe and act rightly.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Prophet, when the Jews claimed that Jibril (Gabriel) was their enemy among the angels—because he brought down revelation that exposed their secrets and contradicted their desires—Allah commands you to respond to them with a decisive and logical answer: "Whoever is an enemy to Jibril, let him know that it is Jibril who brought down the Qur'an upon your heart by Allah's permission."
This response turns their hostility into a proof against them. For how can one be an enemy to the very angel who delivered the final and most complete divine message? The Qur'an that Jibril brought is not a random book—it is a revelation that confirms the truth in the Torah and the Gospel, affirming what is authentic and correcting what was altered. It is a source of guidance that leads hearts to the straight path, and it carries glad tidings of eternal bliss for the believers who embrace it with sincerity.
The verse highlights three magnificent qualities of the Qur'an: it confirms the previous scriptures, it is guidance for all of humanity, and it is good news for the believers. So if someone claims to be an enemy of Jibril, they are in reality opposing the very means by which Allah's mercy reached His servants. Their enmity only reflects their own loss, for Jibril's mission was one of honor, truth, and divine compassion.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a profound lesson about the nobility of the angels and the sacredness of the Qur'an. Jibril is not a figure to be feared or resented—he is a noble messenger who carried the words of Allah with utmost care and precision to the heart of the final Prophet. His descent with the Qur'an is a sign of Allah's immense love for humanity, for through this book, we receive the manual for a successful life in this world and salvation in the Hereafter.
If you are a believer, let this verse fill your heart with gratitude. The very book you recite in your prayers, the verses that bring peace to your soul, and the guidance that shapes your character—all of it came through Jibril by Allah's leave. So love Jibril, honor the Qur'an, and rejoice in the good news it brings. And if you have not yet embraced this message, know that the door of guidance is wide open. The Qur'an is not an enemy to anyone—it is a mercy, a light, and a path to eternal success. Open your heart to it, and you will find in it everything your soul truly seeks.
