Word Meanings:

  • Ijtabāhu (اجْتَبَاهُ): He chose him, selected him, and drew him close with honor and distinction.
  • Fatāba ʿalayhi (فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ): He accepted his repentance and forgave him.
  • Wa hadā (وَهَدَىٰ): He guided him to the right path and granted him success in remaining steadfast upon it.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Adam (peace be upon him) slipped and forgot the covenant, and after he uttered words of repentance that his Lord inspired in him, this verse tells us of the beautiful outcome: "Then his Lord chose him, accepted his repentance, and guided him."

This means that Allah, out of His immense mercy and grace, singled out Adam with His special favor. He did not leave him in his state of error; rather, He drew him close, honored him with His acceptance, and turned to him with forgiveness. The acceptance of Adam's repentance was not merely a cancellation of punishment—it was a raising of his rank. And then Allah guided him, meaning He granted him success in continuing upon the path of repentance, obedience, and sincere return to his Lord. This guidance was not just a one-time event; it was an ongoing blessing that kept Adam firm upon the truth after his return.

This verse carries a profound and heartwarming message for every believer: no matter how great the sin or how deep the fall, the door of repentance is always open. Allah does not merely forgive—He honors the repentant servant, elevates his status, and guides him to a life of steadfastness. The very One who tests us with slips is the One who opens the way back to Him with mercy and love.

A Call to the Reader:

Dear believer, look at how your Lord dealt with Adam—the father of humanity. He slipped, he felt remorse, he turned back, and Allah chose him, forgave him, and guided him. This is the reality of Islam: a religion of hope, mercy, and fresh beginnings. Do not let Shaytan deceive you into despairing of Allah's mercy, for your Lord's acceptance is greater than any sin you have committed. Whenever you stumble, rise again, seek His forgiveness, and He will not only forgive you but will elevate you and guide you to even greater closeness to Him. This is the beauty of turning to Allah—it transforms your weakness into strength and your error into a stepping stone toward His love. So never delay your return to Him, for He is waiting with open arms of mercy.

📜 Verse 120-124 — Taha

Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"
And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].
[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind."
