Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Tajhar (تَجْهَرْ): To speak aloud or openly.
- Al-Sirr (السِّرّ): The secret — what a person conceals from others or whispers privately to someone else.
- Wa Akhfa (وَأَخْفَى): "And what is even more hidden" — the innermost thoughts and intentions that pass through one's mind, which a person may not even utter to another soul.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, whether you raise your voice in supplication or proclamation, or you keep your words hidden and silent, it makes no difference to Allah — for nothing escapes His knowledge. He is fully aware of every secret that you guard between yourself and others, and He knows even what lies deeper than that: the fleeting thoughts, the unspoken whispers of your own heart, the intentions that you yourself may barely acknowledge. Nothing is concealed from Him, whether it is spoken aloud, kept private, or merely imagined within the depths of your soul.
This verse brings immense comfort to the believer. It reassures you that you never need to strain or worry about how to call upon your Lord — for He hears the faintest whisper of your heart even before it forms on your tongue. You do not need eloquent words or a loud voice; your sincere inner cry reaches Him instantly. And just as He knows your hidden goodness, He also knows every hidden flaw — so let this awareness purify your intentions, knowing that you are always in the presence of the All-Knowing, the All-Seeing. How beautiful is this closeness! Your Lord is nearer to you than your own thoughts, and He responds to the silent call of every sincere soul. So turn to Him with confidence, for He already knows what you need before you even ask — and His mercy embraces all that you keep hidden and all that you reveal.
