Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Nūḥī" (نُوحِي): We reveal/inspire — meaning Allah sends divine revelation to His messengers.
  • "Lā ilāha illā ana" (لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا): There is no deity worthy of worship except Me — affirming Allah's exclusive right to worship.
  • "Fa'budūn" (فَاعْبُدُونِ): So worship Me alone — commanding sincere and exclusive devotion.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Allah addresses His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a profound and comforting message: "We did not send any messenger before you, O Prophet, except that We revealed to him the very same core truth — that there is no god worthy of worship except Me, so worship Me alone."

This verse establishes the unity of all divine messages throughout history. Every prophet — from Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all) — was sent with the same fundamental call: pure monotheism (Tawhid). The message was never about tribal gods, national deities, or multiple objects of worship. It was always, and will always be, the call to submit wholly to the One True God.

The verse also serves as a reassurance to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the face of rejection from his people. Just as previous messengers faced opposition when they delivered this message, he too would face trials — but he stands in a long, honored line of prophets who carried the same torch of truth. The opposition he faced was not a sign of failure but a sign that he was following in the footsteps of the greatest servants of Allah.

Moreover, the verse carries a beautiful and timeless lesson for all of us: the purpose of life is not scattered or ambiguous. It is crystal clear — to know Allah, to worship Him alone, and to align our lives with His will. This simplicity is a mercy; it removes confusion and gives every human being a clear direction.

Da'wah (Invitation):

Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this verse! The same message that was revealed to every prophet across time and place is now available to you in the Qur'an. This is not a new religion or a strange teaching — it is the original, unaltered truth that has called humanity to its Creator since the beginning. When you say "Lā ilāha illā Allah" (there is no god but Allah) with sincerity, you are connecting yourself to the unbroken chain of prophets and righteous servants who came before you. You are declaring your freedom from false gods — whether they be idols of stone, wealth, status, or desires — and submitting to the One who created you, sustains you, and loves you more than a mother loves her child. This is the key to true peace in this life and eternal success in the Hereafter. Embrace it, live by it, and let it transform your heart. The door of repentance and guidance is always open — Allah is waiting for you to turn to Him, for He says: "So worship Me alone." What could be more beautiful than answering the call of your Creator?

📜 Verse 23-27 — Al-Anbiya

He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.
Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muhammad], "Produce your proof. This [Qur'an] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me." But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away.
And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me."
And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken a son." Exalted is He! Rather, they are [but] honored servants.
They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command.
